چکیده

Introduction Aging is one of the leading risk factors for osteoarthritis [1]. Proteoglycan, one of the major components of articular cartilage, undergoes loss and structural changes with aging [2]. Proteoglycan has a negative fixed charge density, which is balanced by positively charged sodium in the cartilage. Imaging of cartilage sodium is a potential tool to evaluate spatial proteoglycan content and cartilage degeneration [3]. Sodium MRI has been demonstrated as a desirable imaging modality to detect proteoglycan loss in cartilage [3,4]. The objectives of this study were twofold. The first was to understand the association between cartilage sodium content (as assessed with sodium MRI) and aging. We hypothesized that sodium content in cartilage would decrease with aging. The second objective was to test the repeatability of cartilage sodium content measurement using sodium MRI to assess the variability of the measurements at multiple time points.

قابلیت MRI در بررسی آسیب های غضروف مفصلی در بیماران مبتلا به استئوآرتریت مفصل زانو: مروری نظام مند بر مطالعات گذشته

Background and purpose: Osteoarthritis is a common degenerative joint disease affecting the synovial joints. Cartilage lesion is an important disorder at different degrees associated with osteoarthritis. The purpose of this systematic review was to determine whether magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a valid and reliable tool to detect the articular cartilage lesions in patients with knee oste...

Effect of Intraarticular Ketamine Administration on the Histopathological Changes of Knee Joint in the Rat Model

Objective- Postoperative pain management in patients that undergone arthroscopy is one of the most important procedures for their rehabilitation. Analgesic injection intra-articularly can facilitate pain control in such patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of ketamine on articular cartilage in rat model. Design- Experimental study. Animals- Twenty Wistar Rats Procedure...

Thesis Title : “ Multinuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging for in - vivo Physiological and Morphological Measurement of Articular Cartilage ”

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a serious, painful and life altering joint disease that is most common in the knee joint. Knee OA can be characterized by the gradual loss of articular cartilage (AC). Early detection of knee OA is important, as it will allow physicians to start hyaluronic acid or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) treatment to stop further degeneration of AC. For the early kne...

Mesenchymal stem cells can survive on the extracellular matrix-derived decellularized bovine articular cartilage scaffold

Objective (s): The scarcity of articular cartilage defect to repair due to absence of blood vessels and tissue engineering is one of the promising approaches for cartilage regeneration. The objective of this study was to prepare an extracellular matrix derived decellularized bovine articular cartilage scaffold and investigate its interactions with seeded rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (...

Advances in magnetic resonance imaging of articular cartilage.

The pathology, assessment, and management of articular cartilage lesions of the hip and knee have been the subject of considerable attention in the recent orthopaedic literature. MRI has long been an important tool in the diagnosis and management of articular cartilage pathology, but detecting and interpreting early cartilaginous degeneration with this technology has been difficult. Biochemical...
